Woman allegedly caught with cocaine remanded

A 42-year-old woman who was allegedly caught with cocaine in her handbag was remanded to prison Friday by City Magistrate Leron Daly for trafficking narcotics.

Samantha Hubbard pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 25, 2019, at Charlotte Street, she had 142 grams of cocaine in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Hubbard of Dazzle Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara was represented by Attorney-at-law Dexter Todd.

The News Room understands that on the day in question, ranks attached to the Police Narcotics Branch acted on information received and visited Charlotte Street where they contacted Hubbard.

It is alleged that Hubbard was observed acting in a suspicious manner and so ranks decided to conduct a search when they found a black plastic bag with the suspected cocaine inside her handbag.

Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh objected to bail on the grounds that no special reasons were raised by the woman’s attorney.

Hubbard was remanded to prison until October 18, 2019.
