A fire which started at around 11:00hrs on Sunday has left five persons homeless at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

The News Room understands that the owners of the house were at the Parika market where they vend on Sundays. “By the time they reach home, the house was already burnt,” a neighbour said.

The man and his wife have three children – ages 9, 10 and 14 years old – who reside with them.

The fire tender arrived at the scene shortly after a report was made but was unable to save anything. Neighbours also attempted to help but due to the heat and high winds at the time, their efforts were futile.

The Guyana Fire Service has since launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
