Three years jail for robbing wheelchair-bound elderly man

A 48-year-old pushcart vendor was on Wednesday sentenced to three years imprisonment by City Magistrate Faith McGusty for robbing an elderly man who was in a wheelchair.

Michael White of Triumph Village, East Coast Demerara pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on September 27, 2019, at Robb Street, Georgetown, he robbed Compton Caesar of $28,000.

The court heard that on the day in question, Caesar who lost both of his legs was heading west along Robb Street in his wheelchair when he was attacked by a dog that was let loose by White.

It was during the attack, that White stole the elderly man’s money from his pockets.

White was captured by nearby Police who were alerted to the robbery by Caesar; the Police found the money in his possession.

White is no stranger to the court and is currently before another City Magistrate for robbery.

In 2017, he was sentenced to 56 months imprisonment for robbing a United States tourist and in 2015 he was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for robbing a Russian tourist.
