Consistent John wins Hand-in-Hand feature cycling race
Team Coco’s Jamaul John continued his fine form on Saturday, carting off the spoils in the feature 35-lap School Boys and Invitational race of the 15th annual Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Companies 11-race cycling programme at the National Park.
The victory was John’s third in succession after he won the Victor Macedo Memorial Road Race and the feature event of the Laparkan 11-race programme over the last two weekends.
John clocked one hour, 15 minutes, 48 seconds (01:15.48s) to end ahead of four others in a five-man sprint to the finish. He copped six sprint prizes.
Paul DeNobrega took second and Briton John third, followed by Christopher Griffith, Curtis Dey and Michael Anthony in that order.
The other category winners were Junior Niles (Under-50), Ian Jackson (Over-50), Sherwin Sampson (Juveniles), Nigel London (Mountain Bikes), Darius Ramsammy (Novices) and Lennox Jackman (BMX 6-9).
Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Companies’ representatives Shafeena Juman and Shannon Yan were present to witness the races. They later assisted in the presentation of prizes to the top performers. They also handed out branded hats to the competitors.
As has been the norm over the years, the company handed out three BMX cycles and helmets to three promising young riders. The recipients this year were Lennon Jackman, Aditya Deokaran and William Green.
The day’s activities were coordinated by national cycling coach Hassan Mohamed in partnership with the Guyana Cycling Federation.
