Ramdhani siblings excel in YONEX Alberta Series in Canada

Siblings Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani gave a good account of themselves last weekend, competing individually and teaming up in the YONEX Alberta Series at the Sunridge Badminton Centre in Calgary, Canada.

Playing on October 4-5, the pair, on scholarship in Canada, competed in three flights, namely Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

While they teamed up to be Mixed Doubles champion, Priyanna produced a scintillating performance, winning the Ladies Singles and the Ladies Doubles.

In the Singles, Priyanna, who drew a bye at the semi-final, defeated Carol Fu 21-10, 21-13 to cart off the title.

In the Ladies Doubles final, she joined forces with Mary Smith to emerge with a 21-14, 21-13, success over Carol Fu and Jessica Leung. Priyanna also competed in the Ladies Singles and Doubles A-Flight, but lost at the semi-finals in both categories.

In the Mixed Doubles final, Guyana’s top two players teamed up to defeat Viro Hang and Ivy Ung in straight sets, 21-12, 21-15. Previously, the drew a bye at the quarter-final stage and pulled off another straight sets win at the semi-final.

Apart from being the Mixed Doubles champion, Narayan reached the Men’s Singles semi-finals and the third round of Flight A.

In the Men’s Singles, he drew a bye in the first round, won 21-13, 21-14 in the second and lost 21-23, 18-21 in the semis.

In the A-Flight, he got a bye in the first round, won convincingly 21-5, 21-5 in round two and then succumbed 6-21, 12-21 in the third.
