The Georgetown Club Squash Courts will be a hive of activity from Wednesday afternoon when the ANSA McAL Handicap Squash tournament serves off at 18:00h. Approximately 35 players of varied age and ability will battle in two categories, namely Open and Category A.

With many of the junior players on an upward move, players such as Samuel Ince-Carvalhal, Gianni Carpenter, Michael Alphonso and Nicholas Verwey will be vying in the Open Category against seasoned players Deje Dias, Nicholas Narain and Javed Rahaman.

Category A will produce a new champion as one of the younger players will have the chance to take home the trophy this year with the one to watch in this category being top seed Zachary Persaud.

“The handicap points will even out the playing field and will see some players enduring long rallies to climb the point deficient they will be awarded. Both categories will no doubt boast some outstanding squash,” the Guyana Squash Association said in a statement.

Matches will be played in a best-of-three format up to 15 points per game. Action will begin at 18:00h on weekdays and Saturday. On the final day Sunday, the first game will start at 11:00h.
