Asregado, DaSilva make winning start to Lucozade Handicap Squash

Shiloh Asregado and Louis DaSilva were among the early winners in the Lucozade sponsored Handicap Squash tournament, which commenced Wednesday evening at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street.

The confident Asregado came out on the victorious side of an exciting contest with Joshua Verwey with the scores going 15-13, 15-10 in his favour.

He spoke glowingly about making a winning start and the need to improve on areas of weakness for tougher battles in Category A.

Zachary Persaud, who is the Category ‘A’ Plate champion from 2018, made light work of Ryle Rodrigues.

Playing with a -8 handicap, as opposed to Rodrigues’ +12, the 14-year-old still won convincingly 15-14, 15-13.

Luis DaSilva, who had an -8 handicap, eased to victory Lajuan Munroe, who had a +5 handicap, 15-8, 15-10.

Lucas DaSilva (2) won 15-5, 14-15, 15-12 over Brenni DaSilva, while Kaden Pyneandy defeated Bradley Walton (2) 15-13, 7-15, 15-12.

Matthew Spooner also had a three-set match against Angel Rahim, winning 15-14, 11-15, 15-10.

Nicholas Verwey, who won Category A last year, made a successful start to Open category, despite playing with -6 handicap. He battled hard to win 15-8, 13-15,15-14 against Ian Mekdeci.

Other results saw Jonathan Antczak (-4) beat Wayne Alphonso (8) 15-14, 15-10 and Jonathan De Groot (0) beat Tian Edwards (7) 15-9, 15-9

Matches continue daily from 18:00h, with the finals being on Sunday from 11:00h.
