Police are investigating the murder of a so far unidentified male who was reportedly strangled to death at Queenstown, Georgetown.
The body of the unidentified man of African descent was found clad in a short camouflage pants, blue jersey and a pair of fawn clarks on Saturday night.
Police Headquarters in a statement said a 24- year-old male of ‘A’ Field Sophia has been arrested.
A security guard told investigators that the suspect and the victim were engaged in a scuffle when the suspect wrapped a belt around the man’s neck and strangled him.
The incident occurred at about 21:38hrs on Church Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.
The Sophia resident was apprehended by public spirited citizens and handed over to the police.
The Guyana Police Force is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the victim’s body which is presently at Lyken’s Funeral Home.
