Conquerors, Santos promise thrilling end to Limacol football

The Under-20 teams of Fruta Conquerors and Santos Football Club will go head-to-head in the final of the Limacol Football tournament on Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

It is a first occasion that two youth teams will contest the final of a senior football tournament in the city, and both are ready to rise to the occasion.

Both Captains and Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonca envisioned it will be very competitive.

Santos had defeated Conquerors in the KFC National Under-20 final earlier this year to cop the title, and their captain Marcus Wilson feels they can do it again, but they need to be at their best.

“We know it won’t be an easy match. We know the last time we won it against them and we cannot allow it too late,” Wilson stated.

Nicholas McArthur, Conquerors’ captain, said they are up to the task, but they have to dig deep and play to their potential.

Mendona coined the encounter a grudge match, given the calibre of the two sides and their recent history. Mendonca was elated to know development is taking place as two youth teams out-witted the seniors to make a final.

He further revealed they will have the luxury of more playing time since they have another tournament on the horizon. There will be $400,000 for first, while second to fourth will pocket $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.

Pele and Riddim Squad will do battle from 19:00h in the third place playoff, while the grand final starts at 21:00h.
