Final leg of Georgetown Grand Prix set for October 25

The final leg of the Georgetown Grand Prix would now be held on October 25 at GT Motorsports. The event was initially slated to be held on Sunday last, but heavy rain put paid to those plans.

After the abandonment on Sunday, the organisers had earmarked October 28 as the new date for the event, however, this week it was confirmed that an agreement was made to have the races on October 25.

The event has great interest since the winner of the 125cc Junior category is guaranteed a racing trip to Florida in January 2020. Just two points separate Zachary Persaud and Nathan Rahaman atop the points standings of the 125cc Junior karters.

Persaud has 111 points after first two rounds, followed by his cousin Rahaman on 109 points. Both have driven stupendously well so far this season, especially coming off the Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy in Barbados.

At the first meet in May, Rahaman was the top man, scooping up 61 points in dry conditions. Then there was a change in weather conditions and Persaud drove like a beast and got valuable points.

The event in Florida is expected to be held on the first weekend of January 2020 and the top X30 Junior karter from Guyana will be the beneficiary of a Motul-sponsored package, which includes a kart, airfare and hotel accommodation for the competitor.

Trailing the duo by 27 points is cousin Rayden Persaud, who would have had the exposure of another stint in Canada over the July-August period. He is not totally out of contention for top honours, but it would take a good qualifying spot and some consistent performances to rise to the top.

Up next is Paige Mendonca, who was sublime on the wet track, racking up 61 points, as compared to 18 in the first leg. While she’s 32 points off of pole, Mendonca will still add great value to the contest.

Jeremy TenPow, another one with experience, is on 67 points, followed by Jamaican Tommi Gore, who won’t return for this meet, on 30 points, and Faraud Mohamed on 26.

The event will also feature the 60cc Kids Cup, 125cc Seniors and Masters, along with the Easy Cup Rookie and Super. General admission is free, while VIP tickets cost $6,000 each.
