Pilot confirmed alive after aircraft crashes in Region Seven

A pilot whose aircraft crashed approximately two minutes after take-off from Aricheng in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) is confirmed to be alive.

The News Room was reliably informed that Captain Bernard Singh who was piloting the Piper PA31 aircraft, which went down at about 07:53hrs on Thursday, managed to climb a tree and used a flare to indicate his location to the search and rescue team.

The aircraft with registration 8R-HAI was destined to Ekereku, also in Region Seven.

Air Traffic Services at Timehri has confirmed that an emergency locator signal was received from the Search And Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking (SARSAT) System in Panama.

According to reports, the aircraft was shuttling fuel.

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in a statement said the aircraft belongs to Captain Orlando Charles.

The GCAA has commenced investigations and promised to dispatch more information as it becomes available.
