Kumar, Thomas adopting Mercedes tactics for Easy Cup Rookie honours
Easy Cup Rookie drivers Luis Kumar and Ackeem ‘Flat Top’ Thomas are attempting the unconventional strategy of joining forces ahead of the Georgetown Grand Prix at GT Motorsports on Friday.
The two friends in the field of Videography are paralleling the alliance to that of favoured Mercedes F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
On Wednesday, Kumar stated, “After a strong showing in round one where I gained two podium finishes then a disastrous round two, I will be aiming for podium finishes and possible fight for wins to finish third in the championship.”
He added, “As you know the championship fight is between Ackeem and Naresh [Alves]; I think me and Ackeem have come with a plan that once all goes well, it will see him winning the four-stroke championship and me placing third…I guess we will be like the Mercedes team, Ackeem as Hamilton and me the wingman, it should be fun.”
Kumar, who is in fifth place on 46 points, 66 points off leader Alves, expressed gratitude for the support of B.M Soat Auto Sales and Spare Parts, Mohamad S Roshandin Professional Diesel Works and A&R Jiwanram Printery.
Meanwhile, Thomas has a genuine chance to cop the title in his maiden year since he is just 12 points off Alves.
“So far I have been doing well; I’m now second in the championship and I have a real chance to win it this Friday…myself and Luis have a plan and I think it’s a pretty solid one and I’m confident of us coming out on top this Friday,” Thomas related.
He is sponsored by Mohamed’s Enterprise, Cyril’s Taxi Service and B.M Soat Auto Sales and Spare Parts.
Trinidadian Rylie Ramroop (84 points), Jorge Luid Ramiez (48 points) complete the top five, while Sachin Narine (20 points) Dylan Persaud (18 points) are in sixth and seventh respectively.
The event will also feature the 60cc Kids Cup, 125cc Juniors, Seniors and Masters, along with the Easy Cup Rookie Super. General admission is free, while VIP tickets cost $6,000 each.
Qualifying starts at 17:30h.
