Copa Airlines-sponsored bodybuilder returns with medal

With the support of Copa Airlines, 22-year-old Guyanese bodybuilder Darious Ramsammy made the most of the opportunity of a lifetime by taking part in a prestigious international bodybuilding competition and winning a medal.

Earlier this month, Copa Airlines presented Ramsammy with a free return ticket to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, which enabled the talented young bodybuilder from Cummings Lodge to take part in the prestigious 46th International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Central American and Caribbean Championships 2019.

In a tough competition featuring many of the top bodybuilders in the Region, Ramsammy rose to the occasion and made Guyana proud by winning a medal for finishing in fifth place in the Men’s Bodybuilding Junior Category for competitors weighing up to and including 70kg (154lbs).

Facing even stiffer competition in the Junior Men’s Bodybuilding Open Class (for competitors 23 years old and under), Ramsammy put in a highly creditable performance by finishing in the eighth position among 15 contenders, despite being the smallest junior competitor.

These were impressive results because the promising athlete started bodybuilding just two years ago and was competing in his very first international event. Encouraged by this, Ramsammy is confident that he has the fitness, strength and determination to go far in this sport.

He expressed sincere thanks to Copa Airlines for making a key contribution to his success. Reflecting on the importance of the airline’s assistance, he said, “Thank you for getting behind me and helping me to achieve my goal and giving me this opportunity.”

The young bodybuilder recalled that he approached Copa Airlines for support with full confidence because he knew that an airline with such an outstanding record of community service in Guyana would not turn him away.

As he expected, the airline responded immediately and positively with a timely and welcome contribution, which helped to set Ramsammy on a path to become an outstanding bodybuilder who, in the future, can bring great glory to himself and his country.
