Sailor stabbed to death during argument at Parika Stelling

Police are investigating the murder of a 48-year-old sailor attached to the Transport and Harbours Department.

The man has been identified as Shurlon Errol Cutting of Layou Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The News Room understands that Mr Cutting was at the Parika Ferry Stelling Thursday about 18:30hrs when he told the suspect, a 28-year-old labourer from West Berbice, to remove from the stelling.

Police Headquarters stated that the two men got into an argument when Mr Cutting armed himself with a piece of wood and began to beat the suspect.

The suspect reportedly took out a pair of scissors and stabbed Mr Cutting below his left armpit.
He was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital and died while receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested at the Parika Stelling with the suspected murder weapon.

The suspect received injuries to his left abdomen and left knee and was treated at the Leonora Cottage Hospital and discharged.
He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
