A construction worker was on Friday sentenced to three years imprisonment by City Magistrate Leron Daly for chopping his colleague during a fight.

Paul Johnson, who had previously served 15 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to a manslaughter charge, had confessed that on September 20, 2019, at Durban Backlands, Greater Georgetown, he inflicted grievous bodily harm to Chandrika Vickram.

The court heard that Johnson and Vickram worked together at a construction site at Durban Backlands during which they were involved in an argument.

The court heard that Johnson armed himself with a cutlass and chopped the victim multiple times about the body.

Vickram was treated for wounds to the elbow, wrist, and neck and other parts of his body.  Johnson made good of his escape and was recently arrested by the police.
