Houses destroyed by fire at Peter’s Hall

The Guyana Fire Service is battling to control a huge fire which has completely destroyed one house at Peter’s Hall on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD.

The fire has since spread to a neighbouring house.

Reports are that the fire was caused by a lighted Diya.

No one was injured in the ordeal but the News Room understands that a woman who is wheelchair bound and resides in the upper flat of the building had to be pulled from the burning house.

It is unclear how many persons are now homeless.

The fire occurred as Hindus in Guyana are observing the auspicious holiday of Diwali with the lighting of Diyas.
