There are 3,924 new registrants during the ongoing Claims and Objections period by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

Public Relations Officer, Yolanda Ward told the press that there have been 17,243 transactions thus far of which 9, 516 are transfers.

There were 1, 672 change/corrections, 1,627 replacements, 472 photo retakes and 32 objections.

The Claims and Objections period started on October 1; during the 42-day process, persons above 18 years who are not on the National Register of Registrants can get registered.

It also allows persons to change their addresses and other details so that they can vote at the next General and Regional Elections.

The process followed a truncated period of House-to-House registration which was held in July-August.

From Thursday last, the Commission also began to display data from the House-to-House registration process for claims and objections.

“The list from House to House registration is currently being displayed for public scrutiny and for persons to verify their information. If there are changes to their information they should visit the GECOM office in their area to update accordingly,” Ward said.

The PRO noted that the list is published in two parts: category A and B with category A being those persons under the age of 18 years. As such, only those on the Category B list can make claims now.

During the curtailed house to house registration, over 370,000 persons were registered.

On the Preliminary List of Electors, there are 646, 625 names.

GECOM Commissioners have stated that the newest information will be used to formulate the voters’ list.

The current Claims and Objections period concludes on November 11, 2019.
