Mon Repos father of four missing after falling overboard

A Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara family is in a state of devastation after 53-year-old David Mohan fell overboard at sea during a fishing trip on October 31.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Demerara River behind the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown at about 22:00hrs; his body is yet to be recovered.

Mohan, who is a father of four, was on the fishing trip with his son, Christopher and another fisherman.

“He wasn’t feeling well and he asked for his pressure tablet and by the time his son reach to go get the tablet, he fell overboard,” a relative, Madonna Ghanie told the News Room.

Ghanie said Christopher saw his father falling and rushed to grab him, but it was too late.

After the man fell overboard, his son could not do anything to save him as he cannot swim.

The son and the other fisherman were rescued by relative hours after the incident, as neither could have captained the boat.

Christopher and the fisherman are in police custody at the Beterverwagting Police Station assisting with the investigation.

Meanwhile, family members have since launched a search party for the man.
