A 24-year-old man is nursing a gunshot wound to the chest after he was shot and robbed of two gold chains by two bandits on Thursday night at the Uitvlugt Bus Shed Street, West Coast Demerara.

Injured is Akeem Ford of Bagotville, West Bank Demerara.

The young man told Police that he left home for Uitvlugt to meet a friend so that he can collect 15 pennyweights of raw gold.

At around 22:00hrs, while walking through bus shed street, Ford said he felt a hand on his neck from behind pulling his two gold chains. He turned around and came face to face with two bandits and a scuffle ensued during which he was shot.

He fell to the ground and the bandits took the chains – one ounce and 13 pennyweights valued at G$180,000 and a two once and nine pennyweights valued at G$250,000 along with G$45,000 in cash.

Ford was taken to the Leonora Diagnostic Centre and then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
