A 29-year-old man was on Monday sentenced to four years imprisonment by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus for the possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Kevin Bruce, also known as ‘Bankey’, had confessed that on September 26, 2019, at East La Penitence, Georgetown, he had a .32 pistol and 10 matching ammunition in his possession without being the holder of a firearm license.

Bruce, during his first arraignment in October had pleaded guilty to the two charges to save the court’s time.

On Monday, after a probation report was read, Bruce was sentenced to two years imprisonment on each charge. The sentencing will run concurrently which means he will only serve two years.

According to reports, on the day in question, the Police responded to a report of a break and enter and went to a home in East La Penitence when they saw Bruce coming out from the property with a bag.

Bruce attempted to escape but was captured. The loaded firearm was found hidden in the crotch of his pants.
