Police on Tuesday arrested Floyd Rodrigues of Mabaruma, North West District (NWD) who is suspected of murdering his 19-year-old wife, Gweneth Alexander between July 22-23, 2013, Tinapu Backdam, NWD.

Police Commander of Region One, Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum told the News Room that Rodrigues was arrested Tuesday in Mahdia after more than six years of being on the run.

The senior cop said that the Police in Mahdia, Region 8 acted on intelligence received and made the arrest. Rodrigues is being escorted to the capital city Georgetown Wednesday for further questioning.

Police had reported that the young businesswoman resided at Six Miles Arakaka, NWD with Rodrigues and their two children and operated a shop in the backdam.

Her body was discovered on a bed in the building of the shop by a gold miner on July 23. A post mortem found that she died from a stab wound to the abdomen.

Police investigations had found that the woman’s husband had paid a 53-year-old farmer to take him and his children to Red Hill in Barima-Waini.

The Police will re-submit the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further advice this week.
