Body of soldier recovered at Camp Jaguar
The body of a soldier, Lance Corporal Dwayne Johnson was on Friday recovered in a river aback the Medical Centre at Base Camp Jaguar, New River Berbice, 24 hours after he went underwater.
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) in a statement noted that the Lance Corporal was at the river at approximately 13:55 hrs on Thursday with eight other ranks when he went underwater. An alarm was raised and an immediate search commenced which included 31 Special Forces Squadron and Specialist Divers from the Coast Guard.
The members of the Indigenous community also assisted in the search.
The body was recovered at about 13:35 hours on Friday.
The GDF said a Board of Inquiry has since been launched to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
