A Guyanese woman was on Friday night stabbed to death in Queens, New York, reportedly by her newly wedded husband, 33-year-old Dinhwar Budhidat, who later committed suicide.

Donne Dojoy known as Rehanna was found with multiple stab wounds at her husband’s home on Albert Rd. near Whitelaw St. in Ozone Park at around 20:00hrs.

According to the New York Daily News, cops later found the man hanging from a tree about 1 1/2 miles away in Spring Creek Park, south of the Belt Parkway.

The News Room understands that the couple got married in July this year.

The New York Daily News reported that a hysterical cousin alerted cops after Budhidat sent her a text saying he had killed his wife and was going to kill himself.

“He texted me he killed her. He didn’t tell me how. Why me? Why’d he have to text me that? He’s such a damn coward,” said Budhidat’s cousin, who asked not to be named.

“The text, It was along the lines of ‘I killed her. I left her in the apartment and I’m gonna go kill myself‚'” said Yogindra Toolaram, another of Budhidat’s cousins.

He said after his cousin who received the text called him, they both rushed over to the apartment.

The couple did not live together, said relatives.

“Every relationship has problems,” said Toolaram. “I just didn’t think the problems would be big enough to result in such violence.”

“Every time you see a situation like this, the family members always say we never saw it coming, and I have the same answer,” he added. “He’s the coolest, calmest funniest guy,” Toolaram added.

The management and staff of Gemini’s Ultra Lounge on Liberty Avenue where Dojoy worked, extended condolences to her family via Facebook.

In a similar fashion, in January 2018, 26-year-old Stacy Singh, another Guyanese woman was found stabbed to death in an apartment in New York— around the same time her husband was discovered hanging from a tree.
