The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club’s Busta Champion of Champions, the longest-running First Division cricket competition in Berbice is set to bowl off on Monday November 11.

The 16th edition of the tournament was officially launched on Friday (November 8) at the Guyana Beverages Inc., the home of Busta soft drinks, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

The competition, first played in 2004 through an alliance birthed by the insistence of the then Managing Director of Guyana Beverages Inc. Robert Selman to have a Festival in the Ancient County, will be played on a knockout basis featuring 11 teams.

Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Hilbert Foster, spoke glowingly of the productive relationship shared by his club and the Trinidad-based entity.

Through this tournament, Foster indicated, the two entities “have been able to make positive differences in the lives of many.”

“The Champion of Champions 40-over tournament since 2004 has grown to become the premier tournament at the First Division level in Berbice,” Foster declared.

“We wish to reassure Guyana Beverages Inc. that the 16th edition of the tournament would be well-organised and would promote the Busta brand all across Berbice. I would like to use the opportunity to express our thanks to Mr. Raymond Govinda (Brand Manager), Mr. Samuel Arjoon (Managing Director) and the staff of the company for their support of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club over the years. There can be no doubt that Busta is one of the main reasons why we are considered the best in Guyana.”

Govinda said tournaments like these provide an opportunity for the company to fulfil its Corporate Social Responsibility.

“Our youths in Guyana need something that can keep them engaged, and we as a company this is all part of our Corporate Social Responsibility to give back to our young people,” Govinda said.

“We want our young people to be a part of sports. These are good opportunities for young people to channel their talents, channel their time and energy towards, rather than getting involved in crime and all these different kinds of things that are affecting our society.”
