A Caribbean Airlines (CAL) flight travelling from Guyana to New York was on Saturday night diverted to Nassau, Bahamas “due to a mechanical issue with one of its engines.”

CAL in a statement said the flight BW 526, travelling from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri to the John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, had 134 passengers and 7 crew members on board.

The aircraft landed safely at 10.51 p.m. and was met by airport services in The Bahamas.

The aircraft taxied to a gate where customers and crew deplaned.

“The aircraft has been withdrawn from service and all appropriate inspections and procedures are in progress to return it to service in good time,” CAL said.

The Trinidad owned airline sought to assure all stakeholders that safety is its number one priority and thanked its customers for their continued support and understanding.
