Ruby man shot in head; cop, friends robbed in Leopold St.

A taxi driver of Ruby, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was shot to the head during a robbery on Monday morning.

Police said 21-year-old Brandon Lam was at Leopold Street, Werk en Rust, Georgetown in
motorcar PVV 3948 which was being driven by a Police Constable Timothy Morrison.

Also in the car were 24-year-old Travis Moore of Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD) and Ajay Mahadeo of Anna Catherina, West Coast of Demerara.

They were parked on the northern side of the road when at about 04:30hrs, they were approached by a male known as ‘Barney’ along with two other men, armed with handguns, who discharged several rounds at the car and robbed them of their valuables.

Constable Morrison was robbed of $7,500 and a cellphone while Lam was robbed of a cellphone and $30,000; Moore was robbed of a cellphone, a wristwatch, a gold-coloured band and $5,000.

Mahadeo managed to escape the scene and has not been located since the incident.

The left side front window of the car was damaged and several .32 spent shells were found at the scene, Police said.

Moore and Lam were escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Moore was treated and discharged; Lam is said to be in a stable condition nursing the bullet wound to the head.

The News Room understands that a taxi which was reportedly passing the scene was also damaged during the incident.

The taxi was shot to the right side bumper, left side above the back window and left side back wind screen.
