Two-day old baby boy dies after falling from hammock

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a two-day-old baby boy who fell out of a hammock at Morabisi River, Mouth Island, Issano, Middle Mazaruni River on Monday.

Dead is Lance Douglas. Police said the mother gave birth at the house on November 9 and the next day at around 17:00hrs, she tied a hammock in the house and started to rock the child to sleep.

While rocking the hammock, one of the rope became loose and caused the toddler to fall on the ground.

The 29-year-old mother did not take baby Lance to the hospital because he appeared not to be injured, however, on November 11 at around 05:00hrs, the toddler was in the hammock when the mother noticed he was motionless.

Police said the body was examined and some discolouration was observed to his shoulder and back.

The body is at the Issano health Post where he was seen and examined by Community Health Worker and pronounced dead.
