A 21-year-old miner was remanded to prison on Tuesday by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for allegedly stabbing a man about his body with a broken beer bottle during a brawl.

Vivian Christian of Essequibo Coast pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on November 7, 2019, at Stone Hill Backdam, Cuyuni River, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm to Rajesh Lall.

The court heard that the two had an argument during which Christian armed himself with a beer bottle and stabbed Lall to his face and throat.

Lall was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Suddie Hospital where he was treated and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

The Chief Magistrate remanded Christian to prison until November 21 and transferred the matter to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
