Deodass confident of podium finish in Starlet Cup
The Starlet Cup usually attracts a large number of competitors and for the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) race meet dubbed ‘Clash of Champions’ those numbers are tipped to improve this weekend.
Amongst the lot is three-time champion Motilall ‘Kevin’ Deodass, who is out to be within the top three on November 16 and 17 at South Dakota Circuit.
Speaking to News Room Sport the #56 driver stated with great confidence, “I will be on podium; I know that. To be reliable is one of the key factors. Every time you go and trouble something that is where you end up in trouble and I don’t like to trouble. We will go out and do our best.”
Deodass is expected to be in hot pursuit of defending champion Annand Ramchand and while the other meets for the year did not give a full blown crack at three showdowns, this weekend is expected to bring out all the thrills.
Throw in Rameez Mohamed, who is expected to race all four groups with three cars, and Team CAMS’ Afraz Alie into the mix, and it spells for top action.
While winning is most times the aim of competitive action, having fun is of optimum importance to Deodass.
“I just look to go out and enjoy myself, that is the most important part of racing. The car is reliable and it always puts me to the spot and I will be going and doing my best.”
He added, “The last race we had some minor touch and we had some gear box issues. But it is all in the fun in the game so I am going out again and enjoy myself and that is all that matters. Once you are reliable you are consistent and you are bound to win races.”
Speaking as an executive member of the GMR&SC, Deodass stated it should be huge meet despite no Caribbean Motor Racing Championships this year.
“We have 10 cars coming for the Radical Series. International racer Zane Maloney is one of those. The races should be packed since to get someone like that to come here and race is big. We still have racers coming from Trinidad and Barbados along with Team CAMS. I just want the guys to know that this is our home turf and we will be defending it.”
Rohan Autospares (Mahaica), Miracle Optical (Annandale), R. Kissoon Contracting Services, Panko Steel, Motor Trend Service Centre (Enmore) and Valvoline are Deodass’ sponsors for this meet.
