    NATIONALS: Grant stars as District 11 retains swimming title

    District 11 (North Georgetown) has retained the Swimming title at the 59th National Schools Athletics, Cycling and Swimming Championships following a dominant performance on Monday at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal.

    Led by Amy Grant’s haul of four gold medals, North Georgetown annihilated the competition, amassing an impressive 446 points.

    District 10 (Upper Demerara/Kwakwani) placed a distant second on 311 points, followed by District 12 (East Georgetown) on 250 and District 13 (South Georgetown) on 152. Completing the top five was District Two (Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon) on 139 points.

    Grant, 17, showcased her undoubted talent in the pool, claiming victory in the Girls 18 and under 50m freestyle, 50m fly and the 100 freestyle. She also anchored the Girls 4x50m relay team to victory to cap a memorable day in the water.

    Maiya Ifill, Giselle Crane and Amber DeGoeas were Grant’s partners for the relay.

    Following the conclusion of Cycling and Swimming on Monday, action now switches to the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora for the Athletics showdown. Action will commence at 09:00h today (Tuesday).
