Security Guard prevents robbery at GWI’s Berbice office

A security guard on duty Tuesday night was able to prevent a robbery at the Guyana Water Incorporated’s Chesney, Berbice office on Tuesday evening.

A statement from GWI noted that the security officer reported that the lights surrounding the building went off temporarily but when they came on, he decided to carry out checks around the premises when he spotted two masked men clad in black.

GWI said that the bandits did not see the security guard who then rushed to solicit the assistance of the security officer stationed at a next-door building but during this time, the bandits used the opportunity to escape since the environs were now illuminated.

The Police were then contacted and arrived on the scene moments later. The bandits were reportedly armed with a handgun and a cutlass.

GWI says this is the third such attempt on its Chesney office this year. The first attempt was in February and the second in June. GWI said it will be conducting a thorough investigation to find the culprits involved, in addition to putting mechanisms in place that should thwart any future occurrences.
