Police operation nets illegal guns, ammo & drugs

Several Police operations conducted on Thursday resulted in the discovery of four unlicensed guns and over 20 live ammunition along with a huge quantity of cannabis.

An intelligence-led operation under the command of a Senior Superintendent was conducted in First Street Agricola, East Bank Demerara where ranks found three unlicensed handguns and 25 live ammunition and a small quantity of suspected cannabis.

Police said five persons, including two females – one of whom obstructed the ranks in the execution of their duties – have been arrested and are assisting with the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Police further noted that ranks stationed in Agricola-Cummings Lodge, went to a location at Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt about 10:45hrs and conducted a search on a 20-year-old male.

They found an unlicensed pistol with two live rounds concealed on his person. Police said the suspect of Perry Street, Tucville, Georgetown was promptly arrested and is being processed for court.

Additionally, Police ranks in Eccles-Moblissa found 1,350 grammes of suspected cannabis at the Soesdyke junction, East Bank Demerara.  Two persons have been detained in connection with this case.

Further, the Police arrested a 44-year-old taxi driver of Queenstown, Georgetown with 40 grammes of cannabis at Victoria Road, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.
