A 31-year-old mother of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo died on Friday morning after the minibus she was travelling in collided with another bus on the De Kinderen Public Road, West Coast Demerara.

Dead is Reshma Ramotar. The News Room understands that Ramotar was travelling in minibus PEE 1243 with her children – ages six, eight, one year old – along with her 36-year-old husband, Ravin Duke at around 06:30hrs.

The bus was being driven by Duke’s brother, a 24-year-old also from Tuschen.

Police said that the driver was proceeding east on the northern side of the road at a fast rate of speed behind minibus BGG 8917 and attempted to overtake.

It is alleged that another vehicle was coming in the opposite direction and forced the young driver to serve north to avoid a head-on collision but in doing so, he collided with the right side rear of BGG 8917.

The News Room understands that minibus PEE 1243 turned turtle; Ramotar and her family were taken out and rushed to Leonora Cottage Hospital.

Ramotar received injuries to the head and other parts of the body and was subsequently transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she died while receiving medical attention.

The other passengers received minor injuries and were admitted to the hospital for observation. Both drivers are in Police custody assisting with the investigation.
