Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 49-year-old prisoner, Chandatt Yodha, who was discovered hanging in the Blairmont Police Station lockups Sunday evening.
Police Headquarters revealed that the fisherman who resided at Bennet Dam, D’ Edward Village, West Bank Berbice, was found at around 18:10hrs.
He was arrested early Sunday for threatening language and behaviour committed on his reputed wife Angella Roy and was expected to appear in court Monday.
Police said he was the only person in the cell.
Yodha was pronounced dead on arrival at the Fort Wellington Hospital. The body is at Bailey’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
