Essequibo salesman shot during robbery

A 40-year-old salesman attached to Takoor’s Hardware Store on the Essequibo Coast was shot Monday night during a robbery while he was dropping off the day’s earnings at the storeowner’s home in Zorg.

Karan Persaud of Perseverance Estate, Essequibo and a father of two children, was shot in the hip region and suffered a fractured hip bone.

The News Room understands that incident occurred at about 20:25hrs.

The storeowner, Takoor Persaud said that the salesman would usually go by his house every day to drop off the day’s earnings.

On Monday as soon as he exited the vehicle, the bandit who was armed with a gun, pounced on him, shot him and made off on foot with an undisclosed sum of cash.

He was taken to the Suddie Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where his condition is listed as stable.

The store owner said he made a report to the Suddie Police Station.

He noted while he has a surveillance camera at his home, it was not positioned where the incident occurred.
