A 24-year-old vendor, who was reportedly caught at the Bartica Ferry Stelling with almost five pounds of cannabis, was on Tuesday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus for the offence of drug trafficking.

Kamian Devi of Kidram Street, Vreed-en-hoop, West Coast Demerara denied that on November 24, 2019, at Bartica, she had 4,544 grams of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Attorney Stanley Moore in his application for bail told the court that his client is a single parent and did not have knowledge or control of the suspected narcotics.

The court heard that Police stopped and searched Devi upon her arrival at the stelling and found the illegal substance stashed inside a cardboard box she had in her possession.

The young lady was remanded to prison until November 28 when she is slated to appear before the Chief Magistrate.
