Cevim Chapman, who was charged for the rape of a 10-year-old girl nine years ago, walked out of the High Court in Georgetown a free man after the Prosecution failed to locate the victim.

The young man was charged in 2010 for committing the crime which reportedly occurred on November 10, 2010, at a location on the East Coast of Demerara.

When the case was called for trial on Wednesday, the Prosecution reported their failure in locating the young victim; as such Judge Simone Morris-Ramlall instructed the jury to return a not guilty verdict against Chapman.

The case against Chapman had stated that he raped the child when she was home alone.

The victim reportedly told her mother what happened and Chapman was arrested and charged.
