Three years jail, over $300k fine for ganja found in Lamaha Park

A 29-year-old East Bank Berbice resident was on Friday sentenced to three years imprisonment and slapped with a $367,000 fine for trafficking cannabis by City Magistrate Rhondel Weaver.

Cordel David was found guilty of having 245 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking on June 26, 2019, at 138 Lamaha Park, Georgetown.

David was charged jointly with Jason Carmichael, 36, also of  Lamaha Park, however, Carmichael was found not guilty by Magistrate Weaver and was freed.

The court heard that on the day in question, Police received a tip and visited the location where they conducted a search.

The suspected narcotics were found on a table in the kitchen. Both David and Carmichael were at home when the search was conducted.
