GFF Super 16 Cup here to stay, says Forde

“I would like to let you know that the GFF Super 16 Cup is here to stay.”
Those were the words of president of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Wayne Forde, as he addressed teams and sponsors representatives at the official launch of the 16-team, year-end football showpiece.
The unveiling of the tournament took place on Friday evening at the Pegasus Hotel, a partner in the staging of the 2019 competition, slated to kick off on December 15 and conclude on January 1, 2020 at the National Stadium, Providence.
The straight knockout tournament means that after the first leg the quarter-finalists would be decided, followed by the semi-final, third place playoff and final.
“We have challenged ourselves at the GFF to make this tournament a spectacular annual event. We’re excited and motivated by the positive response we’ve received from our traditional corporate partners and we’re equally encouraged by the support we are receiving from our new partners,” Forde told the gathering.
“This year we’re adding a special flavour to the GFF super 16 Cup. This year, compliments of Brass Aluminum and Cast Iron Foundry, we are manufacturing right here in Guyana the championship trophy that will be unveiled at a special ceremony in a matter of days.”
