Body of farmer found in Pomeroon River

Police are investigating the death of a 53-year-old farmer whose body was found floating in the Pomeroon River two days after he disappeared.

Winston Alberta known as Jim was discovered at about 07:30hrs on Monday at the mouth of the Pomeroon River.

He is suspected to have died from drowning.

Police information revealed that Alberta who resided with his sister at Akawini Creek, Pomeroon River left home at about 18:00hrs on Saturday to examine his seine which he usually sets in the river.

His sister told the Police that he left home under the influence of alcohol.

He did not return for the remainder of the night and the sister became worried and formed a search party when they discovered Alberta’s boat tied to a tree at the mouth of the river.

His body was seen floating in the river by a passerby on Monday.

Police said the body was examined and photographed and no marks of violence were found.
