A 38-year-old Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara resident, who was busted by the Police with 97 pounds of cannabis was remanded to prison on Tuesday.

Michael Haynes appeared before City Magistrate Sherdel Isccas-Marcus and denied that on November 29, 2019, at his Diamond Housing Scheme home, he had in his possession 44.2 kilograms of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking

Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss told the court that ranks from the Police Narcotics Branch received a tip and visited Haynes’ house where they conducted a search.

A small quantity of narcotics was found in a room while a further search unearthed several bulky parcels of cannabis in a blue plastic barrel.

It is alleged that Haynes was arrested and under caution, he admitted to the ownership of the drug.

The Prosecutor objected to Haynes being released on bail citing the seriousness and nature of the charge.

He was remanded to prison until December 9, 2019, when he will appear before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
