The Ministry of Education has dispelled reports that the Chief Education Officer Dr Marcel Hutson was fired or was sent home.
A statement from the Ministry on Wednesday made it clear that Dr Huston remains on the job but will proceed on his pre-retirement leave in 2020; the CEO is statutorily expected to retire on September 1, 2020.
The Ministry said Dr Hutson initiated his retirement process in August this year and received partial gratuity benefits to which he is entitled.
The Ministry noted that Dr Hutson also has an outstanding 230 days of his annual leave.
“Therefore, the CEO is required to proceed on pre-retirement leave-in 2020 to enjoy all his outstanding leave and benefits. The Ministry of Education and the Government of Guyana take this opportunity to thank Dr Hutson for his continued service.”
