Through its global brands Vitabiotics Feroglobin and Wellman Original, local distributor Mike’s Pharmacy has taken up the mantle to energise players at the upcoming second annual KFC Goodwill Football tournament, set for later this month.

The company’s Marketing Manager Michael Jessimy on Tuesday confirmed the entity’s partnership with the Petra Organisation, the coordinating body of the year-end tournament, at a simple ceremony at the Ministry of Education ground.

“We understand and believe in the necessity of enhancing sports as part of making a healthy nation and for the further development of our youths,” Jessimy said.

“We will always be willing to help with the promotion of sports, and in the long run it will help our country to be much more recognised on the international sporting arena.”

Jessimy used the forum to highlight that fast bowler James Anderson, England’s most successful Test bowler, has credited much of his success to the Wellman brand of products.

Mendonca said Mike’s Pharmacy coming on board is another opportunity to further enhance the event.

“On behalf of Petra and the entire football fraternity, we want to thank Mike’s Pharmacy, through Vitabiotics, Wellman and Feroglobin for joining hands with KFC in bringing this tournament. Your contribution here will be massive in terms of us exposing these youths and building a brand for years to come,” Mendonca indicated.

Mendonca, whose Petra Organisation has been a proactive force in promoting youth and schools football in the city, expounded on the format of this year’s competition, which has five playing days.

The tournament will run from December 14-22 and all matches will be played at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The six teams will be placed in two groups of three, playing each other once in the group. The winner and runner-up of each group will advance to the semi-finals.

The participating teams are defending champions Shiva Boys of Trinidad and Tobago, USL Montjoly of French Guiana, hinterland teams Annai Secondary and Waramadong Secondary and the top two teams in the ongoing GuyOil Under-18 League, Lodge and Annandale.
