The trial into the brutal murder of 45-year-old United States-based Guyanese trader, Samantha Benjamin commenced on Wednesday at the Georgetown High Court.

Benjamin’s dismembered body was found at the Annandale foreshore, East Coast Demerara in 2015.

Twenty-five-year old Imran Ramsaywack known as ‘Kevin Jones’, ‘Coolie Boy’ and ‘Ramsa’, of Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon and a 12-member jury.

He denied the indictment which alleged that he murdered the businesswoman between March 25-26, 2015.

Ramsaywack is represented by Ravindra Mohabir while the State is represented by Prosecutors Abigail Gibbs and Mandel Moore.

The trial is ongoing and several witnesses are expected to testify.

Benjamin, a United States citizen, was the proprietor of a boutique in the Vendor’s Mall on Water Street.

Her dismembered body was found at the foreshore on the morning of March 26. The head, legs and arms were found later at the foreshore after the water receded.
