The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) will host Grenada for a three-match Goodwill Series, commencing this evening (Friday) at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 20:00h.

At Thursday’s pre-match press briefing at Palm Court, both camps voiced their eagerness to be competitive as they give fringe players an opportunity.

Junior Hercules, Head Coach of Guyana, noted his troop are ready for the battle and living up to the expectation as being the number one ranked Caribbean Basketball Championship team.

“It is our hope that the games will be competitive and sure our local boys are hungry since most of them are not necessarily part of our 2018 CBC team so they are being given an opportunity to compete as it relates to the team with a large portion being youngsters. I believe it will make for a good engagement.”

Naka Joseph, Head Coach of Grenada, felt it will be a very competitive series, given the eagerness of the budding talents.

“We know the standard Guyana has and even though some of the players are not there we know it will be a high level of competition so we are prepared for that…I know the series will be competitive.”

Guyana Olympic Association President, K.A. Juman-Yassin, said this is part of ensuring players get both exposure and competition in order to develop.

Meanwhile, GABF President Michael Singh noted this is a great opportunity to expose talents ahead of CBC 2020.

In the last meeting between these two sides Guyana won 82-68 in June 2018. Games two and three will be played on Saturday and Sunday respectively, with supporting matches starting at 19:00h.

    Admission is G$300 per person.

Team Guyana reads: Harold Adams [Small Forward], Travis Belgrave [Small Forward], Dave Causeway [Point Guard], Akeem Crandon [Power Forward], Jamal Gilkes [Small Forward], Orlan Glasgow [Small Forward], Yonnick Tappin [Shooting Guard], Timothy Thompson [Centre], Dominic Vincente [Shooting Guard], Shaine Webster [Centre], Nikkoloi Smith [Shooting Guard], Kevon Wiggins [Combo Guard], Ray Victor [Combo Guard], Terron Welch [Shooting Guard], Nathan Saul [Shooting Guard], Travis Burnette [Point Guard] and Marlon Chesney [Point Guard].
