A mother of two on Friday morning picked up her children and ran out naked from her burning house at Bent Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown.

Natasha Morrison told the media that the fire started at about 04:00hrs.

Morrison said the smell of smoke woke her up and upon investigating, she saw fire at one of the windows in the house.

The mother of two said she ran to the kitchen to get water to put out the blaze, but the fire quickly began to spread.

“This thing start spreading fast, fast, fast and all I could do is wake my children out their sleep and run naked as I [was] born,” she told the media.

She was eventually given a pair of pants and a jersey by neighbours.

The houses destroyed and scorched from the fire

The woman resided in the upper flat of the wooden house with her children, ages 11 and 13 years old.

Morrison suspects that the fire is as a result of arson; she is alleging that someone threw a lighted object through the windows.

She ruled out that the fire could have been electrical in nature, noting that there were no appliances where the fire started.

Firemen at the scene of the incident on Friday morning

Asked if she has had any issues with anyone who may have wanted to set the house on fire, Morrison said she was about to move out of the building since her landlord is refusing to fix issues with the floor. However, she said there is no one else with whom she had any issue.

The fire destroyed two other houses located in the same yard and scorched three other buildings nearby.
