Young motorcyclist killed in ECD accident

A young motorcyclist died at the Georgetown Public Hospital early Tuesday morning without regaining consciousness hours after he was involved in an accident on the Non-Pariel Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead is 20-year-old Joel Sobers of Melanie, ECD.

The News Room understands that at around 16:20hrs on Monday, Sobers was speeding west along the southern side of the road on motorcycle CK 1683 while motorcars PPP 1210 and HC 5447 were proceeding east along the northern side.

The driver of the hire car alleged that he turned south across the road when Sobers collided with the left rear side of the car, lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the other car.

The News Room understands that the young man received severe injuries to his head and body; he was transported to the Georgetown Hospital in an unconscious state by the hire car driver.

Sobers succumbed to his injuries at around 04:10hrs Tuesday in the intensive care unit.
