Zeeburg man caught with ganja remanded

A 30-year-old Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) resident who was busted with over 68 pounds of marijuana was remanded to prison by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at Wales Magistrate’s Court Wednesday.

Azim Ali called ‘Boyo’ denied the charge which alleged that on December 5, 2019, at De Willem Village, WCD, he had 30.902 kilograms of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The State was represented by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), Konyo Sandiford.

The News Room had reported that on the day in question at about 23:00hrs, Ail was intercepted by CANU ranks at De Willem Village following a high-speed chase.

Ali was the driver of motorcar PPP 7790 which had three passengers inside. The passengers managed to escape leaving Ali and 68 pounds of marijuana inside.

The Prosecutor objected to bail and Ali was remanded to prison until January 28, 2020. The matter is transferred to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
