Sonia Joseph, former Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (ag) has been appointed as the new Police Legal Advisor (PLA). This was disclosed on Wednesday by Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan.
Joseph was tipped for the post following the resignation of retired Justice Claudette Singh who is now serving as the new Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission. Justice Singh demitted office in July and was sworn in to chair GECOM on July 29.
The Police Legal Advisor advises the Police Force on matters regarding the investigation of all crimes. The person is also required to support the Police Force in the training of criminal investigators and prosecutors and make recommendations to the Police Force on any legislative changes to be reviewed by the Ministry of Public Security.
