Residents of Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice are in a state of shock after some five gunmen invaded the Chenick’s and Sons supermarket at around 20:30hrs Saturday.
Residents told the News Room that the bandits were armed with assault rifles and fired between 15 to 20 gunshots. It is unclear at this time if anyone was shot.
The News Room understands that the gunmen escaped the owner’s vehicle – a Toyota Verossa – and headed in the direction of New Forest, an isolated area.
Police responded and are said to be on the hunt for the gunmen.
The News Room is unable to confirm at this time if any money was stolen; more information will be provided as it becomes available.
